This type of mental illness usually associated with disability, a condition where the sufferers are exposed to social oppression and discrimination. However, past studies indicate there are no gender differences in discrimination suffered by the patients after they are diagnosed with depression. While in malaysia, statistics on various mental illnesses show steady increment across the years, and depression diagnosis recorded more female than men sought help. There is also a dearth study undertaken on patients' experiences in psychiatric care, and their wellbeing post-treatment using gender perspective. Thus, the main objectives for this study were 1 )to identify the forms of interventions for patients with depression at the psychiatric outpatient clinic in kedah and pulau pinang; 2)to document male and female patients' experiences towards the interventions while seeking medical and social rehabilitation treatment; and 3)to explore the post treatment outcomes perceived by male and female patients with depression. This research employed the phenomenology approach on 29 patients (21 female, 8 male) using semi-structured interviews. Triangulation was made with psychiatrist, medical officers, nurses, administrative staff, and care taker in the studied sites.
