Hybrid composites have gained interest by manufacturing industry as it having moderate eco-friendly properties to environments and balance mechanical properties of the structural material used in the automotive, marine, and aircraft applications. The aim of this project is to evaluate the impact of environmental degradation of hybrid natural fiber laminated composites after exposed to various environments. Additionally, it also aims to compare the properties of hybrid natural fiber laminated composites with different fiber composition and stacking sequence. Type A, B, C, and D hybrid composites were prepared by using light resin transfer moulding process. The sample underwent different environment exposures which is unexposed, acid solution, alkali solution, distilled water, and natural for certain period. The mechanical, physical, and morphology testing were carried out to evaluate the material performance after environmental exposure. All of the sample properties decrease in the range of 9.29% to 17.27% in tensile strength and 1.03% to 2.52% in tensile elongation compared to unexposed sample. Furthermore, type C decrease severely in bending deflection up to around 54%. All types of samples have increasing of density value after being immersed in distilled water for 10 days. According to the micrographs obtained from optical microscope with 100 magnifications, all samples experience fiber breaking, microcrack, voids, and discoloration after different environmental exposures. By comparing through the effects of fiber stacking sequence, the GFGFG (type A) composite was chosen as the material of interior automotive parts and it has potential to use in other applications.
