dc.description.abstractThis study aims to address the urgent need for a reliable, portable, and real-time detection device for heavy metal ions, which poses a significant environmental and public health threat. The objective is to design and develop a device that can accurately detect and monitor heavy metal ions in various environments. The methodology involves the use of an electrochemical cell replication/dummy cell to analyze the device's performance, and the experimental results are validated with theoretical results, showing a good agreement between the two. The device's design is based on a systematic approach to electrochemical measurements, which combines analog filtering, voltage scaling, and current-to-voltage conversion using various op-amp configurations. The circuit accurately controls the working electrode potential, amplifies the resulting current, and outputs a voltage signal that is proportional to the current, allowing for precise and sensitive electrochemical measurements. The frequency filter function is designed to convert the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal into a constant analog voltage signal ranging from 0 to 5V, enabling the conversion of the PWM signal into a stable, continuous voltage signal suitable for analog applications. The hardware design of the electrochemical device involves the use of an Arduino Nano microcontroller board, which is chosen for its small size, low power consumption, and compatibility with various sensors and peripherals. The device's potential impact on environmental sustainability and public well-being is significant, and further research is needed to expand its capabilities and miniaturize its design. Overall, this study presents a reliable and portable heavy metal ion detecting device that can accurately detect and monitor heavy metal ions in various environments, providing a transformative approach to improve environmental sustainability and public well-being.
