dc.description.abstract | The awareness of the increasing of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission in atmosphere which is leading to global warming and climate change, CO2 capture have been studied for reduction of its emission to atmosphere. In this project, two different experiments had been carried out to produce CaO-TiO2 nanotubes for CO2 adsorption. First, electrodeposition method had been used to deposit calcium oxide (CaO) on the titanium (Ti) foil. However, the deposited CaO was in micro-size. Next, anodization method is used to anodize CaO-TiO2 nanotubes in ethylene glycol (EG). The anodized nanotubes were not uniformly distributed and collapsed. So, wet impregnation had been carried out to incorporate CaO on as-anodized TiO2 nanotubes. The synthesized materials were subjected to annealing before characterization. Characterization techniques such as field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), energy-dispersion X-ray (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to characterize the synthesized materials. Lastly, CO2 adsorption capacity was obtained by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Sample anodized in 95 ml of EG with 5 ml of H2O2 and 0.3 g NH4F and then wet impregnation for 48 hours in 1.2 Ca source resulted in deposition of CaO layer on the surface with CO2 adsorption capacity of 4.45 mmol/g. This CaO layer in such nanotube structure was believes to have enhanced the diffusion of CO2 into CaO-TiO2 nanotubes. | |
