There are multiple fundamentally different methods of insulating noise. One of being the utilisation of the concept of Micro-perforated Panels or MPPs, for short. The fabrication of MPP requires micron-scaled holes or perforations to be created on the body of a flat sound absorbent panel. One of the methods to create perforation is by using highly accurate CNC milling machines with micron-scaled drill bit. However, man-made products were never perfect, in that the holes perforated are never exactly the way it was intended. Thus, this project is to study of the correlation between perforation settings of a CNC milling machine and the accuracy of the perforation, diameter-wise. In this project, variations of spindle speed, post -penetration spin time and presence of support were imposed on three different materials, i.e., oil palm fibrereinforced polylactic acid with compatibilizer (OPF), 3D-printed polylactic acid (PLA) and double-sided copper clad printed circuit board (PCB) during the perforation process. Taguchi Method and L27 Orthogonal Array were implemented to assist the study. Perforations were done according to the combinations created under the orthogonal array. The perforated specimens were, then, observed under a SEM and the perforation’s diameters were recorded and analysed. In the end, the optimis ed configurations for each material were inferred, i.e., no support, 1 second of post penetration spin time and 6,000 RPM for OPF; no support, 0 second of post penetration spin time and 8,000 RPM for PLA; and sandwiched support, 0 second of post penetration spin time and 10,000 RPM for PCB.
