Abstract
Application of rare earth elements (REE) in various filed had caused the demand for these recent years. Monazite, a rare earth phosphate mineral, is integral to numerous industrial applications owing to its high concentration of rare earth elements (REEs), which exhibit unique and valuable properties. These applications span diverse industries globally. In electronics, REEs from monazite like neodymium, cerium, and lanthanum are crucial for manufacturing magnets, capacitors, and phosphors used in smartphones, computers, and televisions. This research program was designed to compare the effect of amount of feed and effect of impeller speed to the concentration on monazite recovery. The froth flotation study is carried out using bench flotation equipment with the condition of pH 9 and at room temperature. Samples were also characterized using Particle Size Analysis (PSA), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF). In the increment of impeller speed, with a suitable amount of feed, accurate amount shows better recovery in the flotation of monazite. On the other hand, amount of feed has significant effect, higher the sample of feed, it produces better grade of monazite depend on the impeller speed of flotation process. The knowledge gained from this work will be beneficial in selecting appropriate amount of feed or suitable impeller speed for monazite recovery in the industry.
