The purpose of this study was to synthesis ß–tricalcium phosphate (ß–TCP) and biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) powders via wet precipitation by using precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) powders. The effect of PCC powders particle size was investigated towards the purity and the composition percentage of ß–TCP content in the final calcined samples synthesized. There were 7 PCC named C1 – P1 with different particle sizes used in the experiments. According to the x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, the final calcined samples were consisted of ß–TCP. The field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) also showed that the microstructure of calcined samples was porous. The powders BCP were synthesized via wet precipitation method with 2 different mechanisms. The mechanisms were differentiated by the heating applied during mixing process. The parameter investigated for the BCP powders synthesized was the altered Ca/P ratio. The Ca/P ratio applied in the BCP powders synthesis with heating applied was 1.587. The final calcined sample was named BCP (C). Meanwhile, the Ca/P ratios of 1.58, 1.56, 1.55, and 1.59 were applied in the synthesized of BCP powders without heating applied. The Ca/P ratios were applied for the experiment sets BCP 1, BCP 2, BCP 3 and BCP 4 respectively. According to the XRD quantitative analysis, the HA: ß–TCP ratio for final calcined sample BCP (C) was 63.4:36.6. The HA: ß–TCP ratio for the final calcined samples of BCP 1 (B), BCP 2 (B), BCP 3 (B) and BCP 4 (B) were 59:41, 39:61, 58:42, and 45:55. The HA: ß–TCP ratios obtained through experimental were almost similar to the theoretical HA: ß–TCP ratio.
