Abstract
The work reported in this thesis is a continuation of a previously completed final year project. This project aims at developing a machine, which could climb coconut trees either fully automated or partially automated. However, this time a few changes already being done to this climbing mechanism. For an instance, this climbing mechanism could also pluck a bunch of coconut, branches and cut down trees if using appropriate cutting tools. This project is divided into two parts which is in first part it is concerning modifying the previous climbing mechanism. Meanwhile the second part is installing cutting mechanism. All the procedure in these stages is presenting by flow charts. In first stage, improvement and changes had been done after doing some test and observations to the previous design. Each functional component and parts of the CERo is designed separately and at the end it is assemble. The geometry of the basic components is designed as simple as possible to facilitate the fabrication work. The strength to weight ratio of aluminium made aluminium is ideal to be used as main material in this climbing machine. Calculations have been carried out to determine the size of component to avoid any mechanical failure in the operation. After the determination of shape and dimension, technical drawings are prepared by ‘SolidWorks 2000’. In second stage, installation an additional tool to the climbing robot. It is easy to put into disassembly drawings in order to shows how the works were being done. Finally, both stages are combined to obtain the characteristics and the performance of the climbing machine as well as harvesting machine are recorded after some appropriate tests.
