dc.description.abstract | Canister designed in this project is used for fire fighting. It is easy to use and less dangerous compared to some other fire extinguishing grenade which will explode. The canister contained an amount of liquid carbon dioxide which will be released as carbon dioxide gas that will block the supply of oxygen to combustion of flames. A canister with reference of dimension from product available in the market has been designed and modeled. It is a pressure vessel and it contains highly pressurized liquid carbon dioxide. It is necessary to test the design of the canister to make sure that the canister is secure to be used. FEA has been run on the canister with the pressure of Gatm acting in the canister body. The effect of pressure on the canister is also being studied in static analyses. The results are: maximum stress 12.8531 N/m*, maximum strain 0,007, maximum displacement 0.384mm and minimum factor of safety 1.702. A simplified analytical solution is also being used to calculate the stresses on the canister body. However, the results is not valid because it only accounted some but not the whole part of canister body. From both of the results (stress, strain. displacement and factor of safety), the design of canister is proven safe and reliable to be used. | |
