dc.description.abstractβ-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) powder was synthesized using calcium carbonate (CaCO3) or calcium oxide (CaO) and phosphoric acid (H3PO4) where the Ca / P ratio has to be 1.50, synthesized at room temperature (25 ˚C), there are three method suggested to determine which method is the most suitable, the methods are, method (1), CaCO3 was first dissolved in deionized water followed by titration into H3PO4 acid. The mixture was stirred using a magnet stirrer bar for about 2 hours until no changes of pH value in the range of 5.5 – 6.5 pH. Slurry was filtered using vacuum pump and filter paper, dried in oven at temperature of 80 ˚C for 24 hours, crushed with agate mortar and calcined at temperature 850 ˚C (2 ˚C/min) to form β-TCP phase. Method (2) is the same method as (1) but the slurry was not dried in oven instead of using hydrolysis (condenser flask / tube) for 4 hours, at 80 ˚C, and method (3), same method as (1) but the powder used was CaO. From these three methods, a method was chosen by comparing the characterization results (starting powder, after drying and after calcinations) in terms of size particle, functional group (FTIR), phases present (XRD) and morphology (FESEM). The method chosen is used to compare the differences between ground calcium carbonate (GCC) and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) by using the route from the chosen method. Thus, the differences can be compared from characterization results obtained at 3 parts throughout the process route, the 3 parts are raw powder materials, after drying / precursor powder and after calcinations (β-TCP powder).
