Abstract
This is a research of the thermoelectric refrigeration system carried out by using a prototype of the thermoelectric refrigeration system, which is provided from the industry. The objective of the research is aimed to measure the original performance of the system experimental and further giving the recommendation and suggestion on the ways to improve the performance of the system, so that the system might be commercialize in the future. In order to measure the performance of the system, which is given as COP (coefficient of performance). The experimental apparatus was set up properly and a flexible electrical circuit board was fabricated for the ease of the experiment. Several parameters such as input current, fan’s location, fan’s speed, thermoelectric modules combination, ambient temperature and refrigeration volume were investigated for its effect towards the performance of the system. The effect of each parameters towards the system performance is then known and therefore recommendation and suggestion for the system improvement is compile. Besides the parameters investigated, the performance of the thermoelectric system was also influence by its inherent design and installation. Thus, some principles and suggestions for the thermoelectric system design, fabrication and installation were outline in the thesis. Finally, the advantages, disadvantages and some practical application of thermoelectric refrigeration system are discussed. From the survey and discussion made, one will certainly be interest to find up that the thermoelectric refrigeration system has very high potential to become the future refrigeration and air conditioning device. Due to certain restriction and limitation such as the lack of material, which absolutely suit the requirement of the thermoelectric, this technology is still in investigation status. Nevertheless, it was predicted that this technology will gradually overtake the current popular vapor compression system in the next few decades.
