Titanium Diboride (TiB2), known for its unique properties that suitable used as anode materials in conversion of waste materials such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and biomass to high-value-added carbon-based products is a promising and cost-effective strategy. This research study the development of TiB2 as an anode material for molten salt electrolysis. Molten salt electrolysis is a high-temperature process used to extract metals from their ores by passing an electric current through a molten salt medium. TiB2 is known for its exceptional hardness, high melting point, and excellent electrical conductivity, making it a promising candidate for high-temperature electrochemical applications. The aim of this research is to synthesize TiB2 pellet using powder metallurgy process and to investigate the effect of sintering temperature on the properties of the TiB2 pellet. TiB2, powder was synthesized using powder metallurgy method and the pellet was formed by compaction process followed by sintering at different sintering temperature of 800 ˚C, 900 ˚C, 1000 ˚C, and 1100 ˚C. Based on morphology of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), the grain boundary of structure can be observed where higher sintering temperature led to more compaction due to increase grain boundary. Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) would present Ti, B, O, and Si elements while X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis shows presence of TiB2, TiO2 and TiO0.48. Titanium diboride, TiB2, samples with 1100 ˚C sintering temperature for 6 hours had the best properties as anode material due to higher conductivity sample and better densification.
