Abstract
The Computer-Aided Process Planning (CAPP) system is the functions which use computers to assist the work of process planner. Usually, we think that the CAPP should has the functions of processing methods choice, working procedure design, equipment selection, and required processing hour computation, ete. The Variant-based CAPP development method very practical, its application increases the efficiency in process planning in a great degree. In this project we introduced the variant CAPP software for gear manufacturing that already developed by us, and elaborated on the structure design of the entire system. its major functions, the development method for the system and its evaluation. The development of this
software is currently on schedule for completion. This system is reliable, no much time taken to generate a new process plan. Part of the source code is included in appendix.
