Abstract
The objective of this project is to do a research on the stress spread value of the Dead End Clamp (DEC) with a product sized of 70. This product functions at low voltage electric power transmission process. Finite element method (FEM) which focused on the Main Body Structure was used as stress analysis tool. The model structure was designed according to the standard dimension existed in the market. However, this product did has some problems in its operation in which the cable tend to split out when operations under high force. This research was conducted to solve this problem so that the product can withstand higher force without any fail. I-DEAS software was used to generate the model and then, this model was analyzed to investigate the stress spread value of the product during operation. In I-DEAS software, the Main Body Structure model was a solid element type and it has 4667 nodes and 2308 elements which were used for simulation. The product was simulated to hold the cable at a maximum loading value of 1200 kg. From this simulation, the relation between the changes of stress spread value and the Big Strip parameters which situated at Main Body Structure was established. The main advantage of this project, with those parameters changes, the Dead End Clamp product could withstand higher loading. Some suggestions for DEC structural design in the future were elaborated at the end of this report.
