Abstract
Manganese does not occur in the environment as a pure metal, but is a component of more than 100 minerals, including sulfides, oxides, carbonates, silicates, phosphates, and borates. There are many methods in hydrometallurgy to recover manganese leach solution. The main methods include solvent extraction, sulfide precipitation, ion exchange, hydroxide precipitation and oxidative precipitation. In this study the uptake of copper, nickel, cobalt and iron from manganese chloride leach solution onto the chelating resin Lewetit TP 207 and Purolite S 985 were investigated. The results demonstrate the ability of the resin to absorb the metal because the affinity of manganese is much lower than other metal, so it will need high concentration of manganese to be absorb by resin. Column elution test demonstrated that sulfuric acid cannot fully elute nickel, cobalt and copper from resin. Neither of these elution schemes fully eluted all the metals tested in the study.
