It is well known that (mechanical) structures can resonate, even a small force can result in important deformation, and possibly, damage can be induced in the structure. The Tacoma Narrows bridge disaster (Figure 1) is a typical example of consequences of resonance. On November 7. 1940, the Tacoma Narrows suspension bridge collapsed due to wind induced vibration (ic. flutter). ANSYS is a program that use finite element to solve problem. Finite element method is used for finding approximate solutions of partial differential equations (PDE) as well as of integral equations. ANSYS able to provide reliable results which make people able estimate the natural frequeney and mode shape of most structural. This feature makes this software become a source to determine the answer of numerical problems. This experiment was carried out to verify the reliability of this program when it comes to the simulation of cantilever beam. Comparison between the natural frequencies and mode shape will be carried out and the factors that caused the differences will be studied
