Abstract
This research focuses on implementing automatic system on the regenerative braking system of Perodua Myvi passenger vehicle that was converted into Hydraulic Hybrid Vehicle (HHV). HHV is vehicle that is powered by both Internal Combustion Engine and Hydraulic Regenerative Braking System (HRBS). The objectives of this research are to develop an affordable control system that automates the switching of the solenoid valves according to the driving modes of the vehicle (cruising, braking, and accelerating) and to compare the fuel economy of a Perodua Myvi prototype equipped with an activated automated HRBS to one with a deactivated automated HRBS. An automatic control system that does not rely on accumulator pressure has been chosen and developed. The inputs of the system consist of signals sent from the throttle position sensor and brake light. To carry out tests to find out the fuel economy of the vehicle, monitoring system developed by the previous FYP student and supervisor was modified and fitted into use. There are two tests that were carried out which are fuel economy test and acceleration test. The average fuel economy of the vehicle in HON mode is 9.90 km/l which is greater than HOFF with 8.94 km/l of fuel economy by 10.79%. The acceleration of vehicle in HON is 3.44 m/s2 which is greater than that of HOFF with acceleration of 2.23 m/s2.
