Abstract
Pedestrian is the most vulnerable road user and has claimed lots of innocent lives in Malaysia. Thorough understanding of causes and effects of pedestrian accidents is a fundamental to save the innocents lives. National accident data is analyzed to see the trend of pedestrian accidents in Malaysia by using chart. Six categories in the data analysis which are gender, part of body injured, weather, light conditions (day time or night time), location/state of the aceident involved and the age distribution of the pedestrian casualties from year 2000 to 2005 are considered. Chi-square test is employed to examine whether pedestrian injuries are independent or dependent on the analyzed categories. Apart from that, the factors that influence pedestrian injury are analyzed like impact velocity of car on pedestrian, pedestrian size, configuration design and type of ear involved with the corresponding pedestrian injuries by utilizing the figure and data from journal or website. The method of the existing vehicles which are pedestrian friendly is also analyzed and reviewed. Thus, all of the factors that may result in pedestrian injuries could be discovered and become an assist when designing pedestrian protection car.
