Abstract
Nowadays, cross–arms has used pultruded glass fiber-reinforced polymer composite (PGFRPC) structures especially in high transmission towers. These composite structures have more benefits such as better strength, reduced weight, superior resistance to environmental degradation and comparatively cheaper maintenance. So that, these composites replaced cross-arms of conventional materials like wood due to these factors. Unfortunately, there has some failures on existing cross-arm members, due to the temperature changes in the atmosphere, moisture, and other environmental factors, which may lead to a failure or reduced service life. There are some solutions to overcome this problem by enhancing PGFRPC with honeycomb-filled composites structures. It has the longer service life compared to the existing cross-arms. This new composite structures can provide better stiffness, good energy absorption, increased load-carrying capacity and excellence in flexural characteristics. However, there has been a shortage research done on the enhancement of existing composite cross-arms in applications instead of the enhancement of hollow beams and tubes.
