This study aims to detect and characterise minerals in tin tailing found on Rahman Tin Hydraulic SDN BHD. Three distinct places provided samples the Jig Tailing, Final Tailing Stockpile, and Concentrate Stockpile. Particle size distribution (PSD), elemental composition using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), phase identification using X-ray diffraction (XRD), and optical microscopy examination were the four characterisation techniques used. The purpose of the study was to determine which minerals were in each sample and to evaluate their characteristics. The PSD analysis showed that all the samples had uniformity coefficients (Cu) less than 6, which suggests that the samples were not graded well. Despite this, the concentrate samples showed good recovery rates and had rich tin contents, with over 90wt% of SnO2 (tin dioxide) present. It was observed that Major, minor, and trace elements could all be distinguished by the XRF analysis, which gave an accurate elemental composition of the samples. However, the use of a roll magnetic separator may have compromised the accuracy of the magnetic separation process, making it more difficult for the study to distinguish between magnetic and nonmagnetic minerals. The study's overall conclusions emphasise the possibility of further mining amang for important minerals and supports the sustainable growth of Malaysia's mining sector by providing important knowledge for the future development.
