Abstract
The purpose of this project is to observe and studies the airflow visualization of piezoelectric fan numerically and experimentally when the piezoelectric fan at horizontal orientation. The commercial modeling software GAMBIT and CFD software Fluent 6.3 were used to build a model and simulate the piezoelectric fan to observe the airflow profile in different condition of the piezoelectric fan. Besides, the comparison of the airflow profile between numerical and experiment results are performed in this work. The numerical model has been build due to the real parameter in the experimental study. Numerical studies involved the user defined function to allow the piezoelectric fan simulate in two-dimensional. All numerical results are obtained from two- dimensional simulation. The condition of the piezoelectric fan is considered where the piezoelectric fan located at the heat sink and the face to the wall or obstruction. However, the experimental studies involved the different height of piezoelectric fan, which is a factor to affect the airflow profile and heat transfer performance. The particle image velocimetry (PIV) equipment is used to capture the particle motion when the piezoelectric fan is operates in two different height. In addition, the particle images are also captured when the heater "on" and *off". From the images captured the airflow profile able to sketch at where the vector arrow focused. The results from experimental studies are comparing with simulation results and that it was discussed in chapter 4.
