dc.description.abstractThis project was concerned about investigation of the high speed machining in local industries. Basically, three major tasks will be focused in this project; conducting a survey towards a company in local industries, studied simulation software (MasterCAM and Catia software) for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining and High Speed machining (HSM), and followed by conducting an experiment for CNC machining. The survey is conducted to investigate the hardware and software of High Speed machining which are currently available in industries. The survey results were then collected and analyzed to have an idea on number of companies that used high speed machine and obtain the latest trend of utilizing high speed machining. The result shows a growing number of companies using high speed machine recently. For the simulation part, two software (MasterCAM and Catia) are utilized in this project. Two type of machining which is CNC machining and High Speed machining are compared in this two software. Cutting methods and cutter path strategies are also compared in this section. The type of high speed cutting method which is Trochoidal machining also is reviewed. Then, it will followed by a conducting an experiment. Due to the problem of finding for a high speed machining, therefore only CNC experiment was being carried out. The experiment results were then collected and analyzed to have an idea on parameter used, In the end of the project, a recommendation is made to the School of Mechanical Engineering. University Science Malaysia in order to have the High Speed Machining facilities.
