Abstract
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods is widely used in various applications such as electronics, photonics and sensor applications due to its unique properties and easy to be produced. In this work, ZnO nanorods has been synthesized by chemical bath deposition. The growth parameters were well controlled to produce vertically aligned ZnO nanorod arrays on two types of substrates (silicon wafer and glass). The synthesized ZnO nanorods were characterized in terms of; shape, alignment, diameter of nanorods, surface roughness grain size, and phase determination. Then, the gas sensor device was fabricated using synthesized ZnO nanorods as active media and silver electrode. Electrical characteristics of fabricated sensors were examined at room temperature in air and under 95 % nitrogen gas environments. The sensitivity of ZnO nanorods gas sensor was determined based on resistance change when exposed to the nitrogen gas.
