Abstract
Natural gas is a promising alternative fuel to meet strict engine ernission regulations in many countries. The NGV are getting more popularity in the market. The vehicles nowadays are still on the gasoline fuel concept. The retrofitted NGV are not performed so well. This problem is due to difference combustion characteristic of gaseous fuel and liquid fuel. The combustion analysis can be study about the spark timing, compression and equivalence ratio. In this project, we will study about the how chemical formula of the gaseous fuel affect the spark timing. We will also look at the pressure rise or energy generated by the fuel. In this project, the modeling of the combustion is important. I study the codes which are written by the Colin R. Ferguson. The codes are written in the FORTRAN software and are for liquid fuel. We want to modify it into gaseous fuel but some of the subroutine can not be solved. Then the Microsoft excel is used to do the analysis. The calculation starts with manual calculation and then verify with software. The result show us that the combustion of gaseous fuel need longer combustion duration. There is about 10-20 CA earlier initial combustion time compare to the liquid fuel. The energy generated by the gaseous fuel is greater then the liquid fuel. It can make much higher pressure if we tune the engine well.
