Abstract
This project is a literature review to investigate the dynamic effects on crash barrier systems. The effects are involved the weight of impact loads, impact speeds and impact angles. The discussion is focused on the two types of crash barrier systems, which is used for the country all over the world that is longitudinal crash barrier and crash cushion. All information and data that has been discussed is taken from the available sources that have been proved. They are included the references from National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) reports, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and data from American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). The comparison between longitudinal crash barrier system and crash cushion system in certain aspect also has been done. This survey also indicates the types of crash barriers, which is used in a few countries in the world-included Malaysia, United Kingdom, United States and certain country in Europe. The purposes of that comparison is to compare the type of crash barrier systems used in the country, the influences of geographic profile of that country upon the used of crash barrier systems and the materials that used to design the barriers. At the end of this report, several suggestions are stated for further investigation upon this project.
