This report analyzes free convection heat transfer in porous medium through finite element method. . Two dimensional plane problems are considered in this program. The restriction of boundary layer assumption is relaxed. Convection in a enclosed porous medium and convection past a vertical wall embedded in a porous medium is analyzed using two-dimensional modal for quasi steady state. The effect of aspect ratio on Nusselt number is studied. A transient model developed for the plane problem and used to study the variation of Nusselt number with time in a confined porous enclosure until steady state is reached. The isotherms and streamlines are obtained at the different porosity and particle size. Results are verified with those available in literature.
