Abstract
Recently, in the era of the information technology revolution and the spread of the use
of the Internet at the current speed, especially with the presence of the fifth generation
of data speed, government and private companies in the Kingdom of Bahrain have
begun to move towards implementing the Internet of Things project in their project
management. These companies aim to increase their competitiveness among
themselves to achieve the best results in managing their projects and ensuring the
successful completion of these projects. The Internet of Things plays an important role
in improving work efficiency and reducing institutional costs. Although a few
companies in Bahrain have succeeded in applying this technology, there is a group of
companies that have failed or are still suffering in correcting the situation in their
business due to the introduction of the Internet of Things in their project management
due to various factors and reasons. Therefore, it has become clear that it is important to
identify the critical factors in applying the Internet of Things to companies in project
management, whether these factors are success factors or failure factors. Therefore, this study discusses the basic success and failure factors in applying the Internet of
Things to project management in Bahraini companies, which have specific application
characteristics that differ from the situation in other countries due to the small size of
Bahrain compared to neighboring countries. The small number of companies and
projects in it, and other companies in the Kingdom of Bahrain that intend to use the
Internet of Things in managing their projects can use the results of this study as a
reference in applying the Internet of Things and evaluating and improving their business performance by taking advantage of success factors and being careful of
failure factors and taking the results of the questionnaire and interviews conducted
with a group of project managers to know how to avoid falling into failure factors to
ensure the application of the Internet of Things in project management in a positive
and successful manner and benefit from the experiences of other companies that have
used the Internet of Things in managing their projects, in addition to formulating the
correct strategy to achieve excellence in the long term.
