J-integral for a straight through thickness-crack consistently shown a decrease pattern towards the crack front with its maximum and minimum values being at the midplane and free-surface, respectively for elasto-plastic material. However, the studies only result in investigation of J-integral for non-hardening elasto-plastic material. The aim of this project is to propose a mathematical Polynomial equation that can be used to replace the process of finite element analysis in analysing J-integral of throughthickness for crack model for strain hardened material. In this project, the profile of local J at crack-tip and J far at outer boundary were examined numerically using finite element analysis of a three-dimensional crack model using boundary layer formulation method that was subjected to the outmost boundary of the model under different uniform loads, Ωfar. The crack model was constructed by referring the HRR singularity field in obtaining in-place displacement to generate a dominant elastic stress field surrounding the crack-tip plasticity and Ramberg Osgood’s stress-strain curve for hardening rate of the material. The results of J-integral obtained from simulation analysis then were validated mathematically using Polynomial equation. The proposed Polynomial equation could help other analyst in estimating the local J of crack-tip deformation for certain specimen without resorting the full fledge finite element analysis.
