dc.description.abstract2-D electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) has been widely used by researchers and practitioners for subsurface investigation. ERT has numerous distinct arrays, and each one of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, the correct array selection is needed to fit the objectives of a study. Pole-dipole is one of the arrays that are often favored by researchers as it penetrates deeper into the subsurface as compared to most arrays, while retaining the data resolution needed for a study. This array is one of the two arrays that requires an offset remote electrode that theoretically must be placed at infinity or at five times the largest C1-P1 electrode separation according to the field rule of thumb. However, the remote electrode distance requirement is difficult to achieve on the site especially with limited accessibility or when lengthy survey line is deployed. Hence, this study manipulates the remote electrode distance in both perpendicular and parallel directions to obtain the minimum distance required in both directions to produce accurate resistivity data. This study was restricted to only flat topographic and homogeneous subsurface areas to neglect effects from other variables such as topography effect and complex geological structures.
