Abstract
The main purpose of this project was study the curing characteristics, tensile
properties, morphological, swelling properties and magnetic properties of carbonyl iron
filled waste glove natural rubber/ natural rubber blend. This project consists of two series
of compounding where the first series of studies involve effect of carbonyl iron loading
at 10 phr, 15 phr, 30 phr ,45 phr, 60 phr, and 75 phr carbonyl iron loading on properties
of wNRG/NR blends. The second series involved effect of hybrid carbon black/carbonyl
iron system with loading at 10/60 phr, 20/60 phr and 30/60 phr filled wNRG/NR blends.
Carbonyl iron loading at 60 phr act as control sample due to high magnetic properties.
For curing characteristics in first series, there was decreased in cure time and torque
difference but increased in scorch time as increasing carbonyl iron loading filled
wNRG/NR blend. It was found that the tensile strength and elongation at break decreased
as increasing carbonyl iron loading on composites. For swelling percentage is decreases
but increases in magnetic strength as increasing carbonyl iron loading on composites.
Meanwhile, second series decreased in cure time and scorch time but increased in torque
difference with increasing of carbon black loading. The tensile strength and elongation
at break at 10 phr indicated optimum filler loading of this composite. As well as swelling
properties, the toluene uptake increased as increasing carbon black loading. Magnetic
properties decreased with increasing carbon black loading on composites.
