Abstract
When a combined cycle power plant like Lumut power plant is analyzed in the
traditional way using steam tables, Mollier charts, gas tables, property equations of state,
etc., excessive time may be required to obtain property values and perform the calculations.
By incorporating these calculations into a structured computer program, time can be
considerably reduced. Current softwares like Cycle Tempo and Gate Cycle have been
developed but require an extensive input data and too many parameters involved in
developing cycle analysis.
The Cyclanna has been specially developed for combined cycle power plants for
accurate analysis of the plants using only essential parameters. The software does the
-- analysis of the combined cycle power plant as an integrated system comprising of
compressor, gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator, steam turbine and condenser.
Changing the parameter of any unit gives not only the performance of that particular
component but it also effect other components and the performance of the plant as well.
The software results were compared by thermodynamic analysis of three different plants
viz, Lumut, Kuala Langat and Paka power plants. The results of Cyclanna gives a
difference of 0.3-3.0 % in efficiency and 0.02-8.46 % in power when compared to the
actual values.
The benefits of using this software are numerous. Significantly less time will be
spent on numerical analysis. As an engineer, this is much appreciated because
computational work that would have taken hours can now be done in seconds. Owing to its
capabilities, the software allows immediate viewing of the effects of varying input
parameters, either through cal•.c ulated results or in the form of graphs and diagrams, giving
the user a greater appreciation of how a combined cycle system actually works.
