Abstract
Systematic geochemical sampling has been conducted in Air Piau gold mineralization prospect within the state of Kelantan, covering area of 15 Hectares. The objective is to identify the geology and potential gold mineralization in the prospect including observing the correlation pattern between gold anomaly and other metallic mineral occurrences. Geologically, the prospect is underlain by thick sequence of metasedimentary bed rock comprises mainly of sandstone and schist rock formation with trend of N150E/60⁰ and crosscut by milky quartz veins in places. A total of 20 stream sediment samples, 60 soil samples, and 10 rock samples were collected and analyzed for gold and 5 other metallic elements (Copper, Silver, Lead, Iron, and Zinc. Gold mineralization occurrence is indicated by stream sediment, showing the higher concentration value of gold at Stream 1, medium at Stream 2, and less at stream 3. Gold in stream sediment shows a positive correlation with Ag and Fe value. Soil sampling study shows the highest concentration of gold occurrence along Traverse 1, Traverse 4 and traverse 5. Gold in soil is only in positive correlation with Ag elevation. Analysis of the quartz vein samples from this prospect may indicate high potential of gold mineralization especially those from Traverse 1 and Traverse 2. Gold in rock is in positive correlation with all common metallic elements except Pb. Mineralogical study of polished specimen BY Scanning Electron Microscope shows that gold mineralization is associated with Silver, and Pyrite.
