The effect of vulcanization temperature (140°C-160°C) was investigated on cation treated attapulgite/NR composite. The attempts were made to identify the optimum curing parameter for the cation treated attapulgite/NR composite by analyzing the effect of vulcanization temperature on curing characteristic, mechanical and morphological properties. Rheological measurement to analyses curing characteristic was proposed. Tensile testing on the cation treated attapulgite/NR composite was conducted. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to investigate the fractograph of cation treated attapulgite/NR composite. FTIR was carried out to investigate the chemical structure on the cation treated attapulgite. It was found that the scorch time and cure time of cation treated attapulgite/NR composite decreased with the increasing of vulcanization temperature. The SEM shows that attapulgite filler were evenly distributed on the rubber matrix. For cation treated attapulgite/NR composite the best mechanical properties were at 140°C of vulcanization temperature and most of the mechanical were decreased with the increasing of vulcanization temperature. Effect of vulcanization system on cure characteristics, mechanical and morphological properties of cation treated attapulgite/NR composite also investigated. Efficient vulcanization (EV), semi-EV (SEV) and conventional system (CV) were chosen as the vulcanization systems. It was obviously show that the compound that used CV system have the better properties than those of vulcanizates in the semi-EV and EV system.en_US
