dc.description.abstractCopolymerized Chitosan (CS) as hydrophobic drug carriers was functionalized with 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide catalyzed coupling with phthalic-anhydride and hexamethylenetetramine respectively by free radical copolymerization method. This research contributes a technical to examine the formation of chitosan build hydrogel and their respective functionalization with hydrophilic functionalities as phthalic anhydride (PA) and hexamethylenetetramine (HA) via 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) with induced antiviral and antimicrobial properties in addition to producing hydrophilic contacts for extended interactions of functional hydrogel with the drug solutions for controlled drug delivery applications. By using several characterization techniques, the structure, morphology, physicochemical and drug loading performance of native and functioning hydrogel was investigated. The analysis of the SEM the morphology of pores present in the hydrogel structure. The hydrogel TGA curve shows two stages of weight loss which increase the stability of thermal degradation compared to native hydrogel. The DSC results showed that the thermal stability of the hydrogels improved after functionalization compared to the unfunctionalized hydrogels. The more positive zeta potential gives better properties in targeted drug delivery system. The selective hydrogel was suggested by the physicochemical and electrokinetic performances as promising carriers for hydrophobic anionic drugs under physiological condition.en_US
