| dc.description.abstract | The effects of different ratios of recycle Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (rABS)/Polystyrene (PS) blend and the effect of various compositions of Styrene Ethylene Butadiene Styrene (SEBS) and Maleic Anhydride Grafted Styrene Ethylene Butadiene Styrene (SEBS-g-MA) as compatibilizers on tensile, impact, thermal and morphological properties of rABS/PS blends were investigated. Based on the results obtained, 80rABS/20PS showed optimum mechanical properties due to high contents of rABS component. The butadiene content in ABS provides rubbery properties to the blends hence resulting in higher ductility. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis illustrates two phase morphology due to immiscibility of the blend system and poor interfacial adhesion between rABS and PS. The tensile behavior slightly better as SEBS used as compatibilizer compare with SEBS-g-MA in blend. In system of 80rABS/20PS with different compositions of SEBS, the elongation at break and impact strength is the highest in the presence of 10%SEBS even though tensile strength inferior to those of uncompatibilized blend.The morphology properties of rABS/PS blends/SEBS showed better interfacial adhesion compared to rABS/PS/ SEBS-g-MA blends. In conclusion, the SEBS is considered as better compatibilizer than SEBS-g-MA even though both could not act as efficient compatibilizer. | en_US |
