dc.description.abstractThe present study was aimed to fabricate Chitosan (CS)- Poly-(methacrylic acid) (PMAA)- Poly-(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogel by using free radical emulsion copolymerization. At the beginning of this study, the CS-PMAA-PNIPAM hydrogels with different composition of chitosan were synthesized. The hydrogels were synthesized with 0.5 g, 1.0 g, 1.5 g and 2.0 g of chitosan and the other one was varied with different amount of cross-linker. After the synthesis of CS-PMAA-PNIPAM hydrogels with different composition, several characterizations had been done on the hydrogels for example Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Dynamic laser light scattering testing (DLS). The hydrogel particles were able to be seen under the SEM thus comparison can be made. From FTIR, by comparing the pure chitosan spectra with the synthesized hydrogels spectra, the functional groups of hydrogels able to be determined and the formation of CS-PMAA-PNIPAM hydrogels able to be confirmed. Lastly, from the DLS testing, hydrodynamic diameter and zeta potential value of hydrogels under different pH (1.68, 4.08, 7.01 and 10.01) and temperature (25 oC, 30 oC, 37 oC and 45 oC) were obtained. From the results obtained show that different in pH has more significant effect on the hydrodynamic diameter and zeta potential value of hydrogels. Therefore it indicates that the hydrogels able to maintain its stability under different temperature and suitable to be used as drug carrier.en_US
