Abstract
This thesis is concerned with the breakthrough analysis of the hydrogen and carbon dioxide by Plate Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA). The aim of this study is mainly to study the purity and recovery of hydrogen gas from the syngas and to compare the performance of Column PSA and Plate PSA in terms of purity and recovery of H2 and CO2. The first step of this experiment is by doing the breakthrough analysis to determine the breakthrough time for H2 and CO2. Based on the breakthrough analysis, the adsorption time of 0.5, 1, 3 and 5 minutes were selected which is less than 6 minutes breakthrough of H2. The highest purity of H2 that Plate PSA can achieved is 100% in both beds and the highest recovery of H2 is 78.321% in both bed. Based on the optimization by design expert software, the optimum condition to achieve maximum purity and recovery of H2 is at 5 min adsorption time and 3 min blowdown time. The study shows that the Plate PSA have better performance compared to Column PSA as it can achieve high purity of H2 and recovery of CO2.
