dc.description.abstract | An empirical approach is introduced for the estimation of partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) and air-sea CO2 fluxes on the seawater surface at the Northeastern Straits of Malacca. Several algorithms are proposed to test for the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) and gas transfer velocity to estimate air-sea CO2 fluxes on the seawater from an extensive literature review. Furthermore, to calculate the pCO2 and the air-sea CO2 fluxes employing widely used algorithms, some data were needed including sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a extracted from MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) as they play the main role in affecting the global climate as it influences kinetics mechanism of the air-sea carbon dioxide fluxes. The derived pCO2 and gas transfer velocity will be used to find for estimated CO2 fluxes on the seawater and thus it will be compared with the results of the CO2 fluxes derived from the eddy-covariance method that have been collecting data since 1 January 2016 until 19 march 2019 (3 years) to obtain for the accurate airsea CO2 fluxes on the seawater surface at the Northeastern Straits of Malacca. The relationship between pCO2 and gas transfer velocity with the carbon dioxide flux was determined, increasing in pCO2 and gas transfer velocity will give more carbon dioxide emitting from the ocean to the atmosphere. The result from pCO2seawater (Zhu et al., 2009) and gas transfer velocity from (Mcgillis et al., 2001) give the best correlation result of in-situ and calculated carbon dioxide flux with 0.6. | en_US |
