dc.description.abstractThe eternity of the sun, the continuous depletion of energy resources and environmental pollution caused by these resources is a matter of awareness to human beings away from their lifestyle or geographic location. Converting solar energy to electricity seems the most promising eternal nonpolluting energy resource. However harvesting this unlimited energy requires developing a cost effective techniques. This study aims at developing high efficiency solar cell based on mono-crystalline silicon using cost effective technique. High efficiency solar cell of 19.34% efficiency has been processed using Cz silicon through a simplified technique. The processing implemented here is characterized by three main features. Firstly, it uses one step diffusion process, consist oframping and cooling with part of the cycle is carried out in power free conditions. Secondly it introduces a new method for passivating the most effective shunting mechanism known as edge shunts, by developing a groove through the emitter. The third is the usage of isotropic texturing which minimizes the conditions on the material crystal orientation which is the main factor in other wet-chemical texturing processes. Solar cells produced in this study are expected to perform better if a further parameterization or more advanced techniques such as contact formation are implemented. The method developed here is expected to be effective when applied to solar cell processing based on lower quality materials, due mainly to its simplicity which minimizes thermal and chemical processing as lower quality materials are known to have less ability to such processing.en_US
