Abstract
The main study consists of three main objectives; (1) cryptic colors of Macaranga
bancana seedlings. (2) Colors and odours of rattan. (3) Distribution and ecology of
fruit bats in Penang Island. For the first objective, we measured the colour
reflectance of adult, juvenile and seedlings of M bancana. Additionally, we also
tested the leaf folding design of adult and juvenile M bancana. Our results show that
the M bancana has several unique evolutionary tactics. Considered as a pioneer
species, cryptic colorations during the seedlings stage greatly helps the survival of
the plant.
