dc.description.abstract | Doctors' acceptance study can provide significant feedbacks to all stakeholders regarding the issues in the EMR implementations. The feedbacks are essential to improve quality and efficiency, to prevent medical errors, and to enhance consumers' confidence in the Malaysian healthcare system. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to develop doctors' acceptance model of EMR in Technical, Social, and Behavioral Perspectives. This model adapted Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a basic theory. The study involved survey method. The site studies are chosen from two pioneer hospitals that use the EMR, Selayang and Putrajaya hospitals. These two case studies can provide a reasonable amount of variance and generalization. Self-administered questionnaires were used in the survey. Findings from survey resulted in the development of the Multiple Perspective Technology Acceptance Model (MPTAM) for EMR. MP-TAM consists of three perspectives: technical, social and behavioral. Technical Perspective that is composed of three factors: System Capabilities, Information Quality and User Interface were shown to have positive significant relationship with Perceived Usefulness (PU) and Perceive Ease of Use (PEOU), the two factors in Social Perspectives. PU and PEOU were also shown to have the positive significant relationships with User Satisfaction, the factor that was included in the Behavioral Perspective. This study has contributed new knowledge to Health Informatics (HI). The MP-TAM can provide evidences related to the acceptance of EMR by doctors. In addition, MP-TAM also can justify the strengths and weaknesses of the observed IT application in terms of System Capabilities (Cap), Information Quality (IQ), and User Interface (UI) of the system. Therefore, EMR developer can enhance the weaknesses of the EMR system. The most important contribution of this research is towards the extended TAM model composed of technical, social, and behavioral perspectives. Therefore, these findings enhanced the theoretical knowledge especially related to the TAM model that was applied in Health Informatics Domain. This study also extended the classical TAM model, which originally consisted of PU and PEOU from Social Perspective, by introducing the Cap, Ul, and IQ from Technical Perspective and US from Behavioral Perspective. For the future, the study can be repeated with other group of users in the same setting to identify the overall user acceptance of EMR. The model can be tested in the non-mandatory health organization such as in private hospitals by broadening the behavioral perspective to include Intention to Use, Attitude, and Usage factors. MP-TAM can also be used to study user acceptance in other IT applications, so that the model can be generalized in IT domain. | en_US |
