Abstract
This study assessed the effect of Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone (PVP) on the stability of aqueous Pour Point Depressant (PPD) nanofluids containing Graphene Oxide (GO) nanoparticles. Different amounts of PVP in gram was added to the GO dispersion to investigate the most stabilise of PVP/GO dispersion. The amounts of PVP added to the GO dispersion are 0.025g, 0.05g, 0.1g, 0.2g and 0.4g of PVP respectively. The blank GO without PVP was the control sample, as a bench mark of the result. The preparation of the emulsified PPD begin with the preparation of water-based solution which include the most stable PVP/GO dispersion. PVP/GO was added to the water-based solution and then all of the solution was put in oil-based solution, both of the solution were stirred in the water bath. Furthermore, the characteristic of PVP/GO dispersion were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-VIS particle size and zeta potential. The stability test was conducted for about 3 weeks. To date, no study has been conducted yet to determine the effect of PVP in the stability of PPD nanofluids containing GO nanoparticles. Previous studies commonly highlighted the effect of particle size and emulsifier concentration on the emulsion process. In conclusion, PVP do prevent sedimentation in PVP/GO dispersion but there is no suitable method found to mix PVP with EVA emulsion.
