dc.description.abstract | A study on the extraction of Acetaminophen (ACTP) which is also known as paracetamol from aqueous solution by using vegetable oils based emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) was investigated. In ELM system, there are 3 main phases which are external phase, membrane phase and internal phase. In the external phase, it consists of ACTP which is considered as feed to be removed from the aqueous solution. Meanwhile, membrane and internal phases form the primary water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion by using ultrasonic probe in order to disperse in the external phase. In this study, there are 3 vegetable oils were used as diluent which sunflower oil, palm oil and canola oil and sunflower oil was chosen as the best diluent to be used throughout this study. Besides, TrioctylAmine (TOA) and Aliquat 336 were used as carrier and ammonia and sodium chloride (NaCl) as internals phase and Span 80 as surfactant. The influence of several operating conditions such as type of carrier, type of internal phase, effect of emulsification time, effect of extraction time, and stirring speed were investigated. These work proved that the ELM system was capable to effectively remove 97.73% of ACTP from aqueous solutions under optimum conditions of 15 minutes of emulsification time, 1.8 wt% of aliquat 336, 1.8 wt% of Span 80, 5 minutes of extraction time, 200 rpm of stirring speed, 0.5 M of ammonia solution, 1 M of HCL dissolved in ACTP aqueous solution by using deionized water. | en_US |
