A parallel-rewriting system, now called Lindenmayer system or L-system in short, was proposed by Aristid Lindenmayer (1925-1989) as a mathematical model while studying the problem of modelling. the development of multicellular organisms. L-system provide a simple way of creating very complicated model or images through the specification of a few production rules. In this project, the basic concept of L-system and certain variations are discussed and different type applications of L-systems are pointed out based on the works of Lindenmayer, 1968, Prusinkiewicz and Hammel, 1995, Prusinkiewicz and Hanan, 1989, Smith, 1984, Prusinkiewicz and Lindenmayer, 1990, Rozenberg and Salomaa 1997 .en_US
