Abstract
This thesis presents new propose process of surface reconstruction using Multilevel Partition of Unity (MPU) Implicits. The process we proposed is to calculate point's normal from polygonal mesh. The objectives of this research are first to propose a process for estimating Normals from polygonal mesh and second is to evaluate the surface reconstructed using MPU Implicits from Normal estimated in the proposed process. MPU Implicits provide a superior approach which can handle a very large data set of points. In addition, it has ability to represent sharp features and good for functionbased modeling. Instead of calculate normal for each 3D point which is time consuming, our propose process is calculate point's normal from polygonal mesh. MPU Implicits models additionally require surface normal information at each point and the input must be in point with normals (PWN) file format. Thus, in this research we investigate and ~ measure the effectiveness of using polygonal mesh in order to produce PWN file. We describe an algorithm that estimates normals from polygonal mesh. We also demonstrate the effectiveness of our propose process with a number of examples including complete points data, sparse data and binary images.
