Abstract
A silt trap is a designated area where water that is contaminated with suspended sediment as a result of mining is contained. While the water is in the trap, the sediment can settle to the bottom of the trap until it can be removed. The silt trap is designed to prevent the ecological disaster that could follow if these waterways were suddenly to become filled with suspended sediment as a result of mining activities. The silt trap that is been analyze is at Hanson Quarry which running quarry activities at Bukit Mertajam. For many years, the silt trap give a problems to the company which it fails during heavy rain. A research have been conducted to detect the problems by visiting the site. The design of the trap seems to contribute why the silt trap fails during heavy rain. Thus, to overcome it, the velocity of the setting silt, usage of settling aids and lastly appliance of new design will help to improve the silt trap during heavy rain. This study will be a feasibility study of the silt trap from Hanson Quarry to be used as example of silt trap application for other company.
