Abstract
This report describes the implementation of a simple hypothetical stack
Machine (S-machine) which includes
microprogramming control, under the University's IBM 370 systems
running VM/CMS. The simulator comprises programs written in IBM
310 assembler language, including the utilization o,f its powerful
macro facilities.
This simulator has important pedagogical value in the
study of the design of computer:c architecture in general (stack
architecture in particular) and the writing of machine language
programs. This is due to the relatively simple features of the
S-machine's design which permits a detailed study and hence
understanding of the machine.
The design of 1-address machine is also described with
the purpose of showing how other simple machines can be simulated
using (with some modifications) the simulating principles used
for: s-machine. the description is sufticiently detailed to
enable implementation should the need arises.
