Polymer gel dosimeters have been used for authentication or verification of three-dimensional dose distribution for radiotherapy treatment. This study focused on the characterization of the polymerization process of the polyacrylamide and polymethacrylic acid. Both types of gels were developed based on the mix of ingredients that have suggested and used by several researchers before. Samples of the gel will be irradiated by two different types of X-Rays. Diagnostic X-Ray machine is used as the source of low-energy X-Ray and the linear accelerator (LINAC) is used as a source of high-energy X-rays. For methacrylic acid polymer gel, the peak of the Raman spectrum is studied at 801 cm-1, 1639 cm-1 and 3114 cm-1 for the observation of the monomer consumption rate during the polymerization process. To see the rate of polymer bonds formed, the area under study is at 1451 cm-1. While for Acrylamide, the focus is on the 1126 cm-1, 1450 cm-1 and 2936 cm-1 for the formation of polymer bonds. While to study the utilization of monomers, the studied areas are 1256 cm-1 and 1285 cm-1. Results showed that the rate of consumption of monomer transformed into polymer is increased proportional to the dose. Total monomer used in the sample also plays an important role in influencing the rate of polymerization in which the greater number of monomers used the rate of polymerization increases as well as the amount of the bond. The analysis using UV- visible shows polymer formed are more likely to absorb light from UV rays than visible light. The absorption by the sample with the highest polymerization process will absorb light more actively. This confirms the findings of a study using Raman spectroscopy.en_US
