Abstract
The deposition of ZnO thin films on Poly Propylene Carbonate (PPC) plastic substrates and their characterizations for the purpose of fabricating ZnO metalsemiconductor- metal UVA photodetectors (MSM UVA PDs) have been performed and the fundamental properties of the fabricated UVA PDs have been studied. The objectives of this study can be divided into two main phases; the first main phase can be divided into two sub-phases; the first sub-phase is to study the structural, optical and electrical properties of the deposited ZnO thin films on PPC, glass and Si substrates by direct-current (DC) sputtering technique. The second sub-phase is to investigate the resultant structural, optical and electrical properties of the deposited ZnO thin films with different thicknesses onto PPC substrates. The second main phase also can be divided into two sub-phases; the first subphase is to investigate the feasibility of ZnO MSM UVA photodetectors fabricated with various metal contacts i.e. Pd, Ni and Pt using PPC plastic as a substrate and compared the behavior the three PDs. The second sub-phase is to study and compare the performance of the PDs under different applied voltages. The results in the first main phase showed that the properties of the deposited ZnO thin films on PPC are better than those prepared on glass and Si, also the increased in ZnO thin film thickness from 0.3 to 1.0 m resulted in the improvement of the structural and optical properties.
