Abstract
This thesis presents the numerical analysis of batwing membrane inspired by latex during free-stream. 3D batwing membrane was drawn to analyze the deformation of the batwing membrane that was modeled into ANSYS Workbench 15.0 simulation software. The latex film was replaced with the batwing membrane; this material gives the good mechanical properties that similar to the characteristic of the batwing membrane. The Reynolds number are much related with the aerodynamics of batwing performance, thus the Reynolds number was chosen as one of the constant parameter in this research to get the optimum result of numerical analysis. The other parameters were the thickness of the latex membrane and the elasticity of the latex membrane during free-stream. The Young’s modulus, density and Poisson’s ratio of the material are also important. However, the deformation of the latex membrane is the main focus of this research. At low Reynolds number, the deformation of latex membrane shows the less deformation at free-stream. The high thickness of the membrane also gives less deformation of latex membrane. Finally, the lower the elasticity of the latex membrane also enhanced the deformation of latex membrane.
